Just like on Memorial Day, I see faults in America's celibration of the 4th of July. As a VET, it saddens me to see the only time many American's show pride in their country is when they can set off fireworks, get a day off work and drink like out of water fish.

The armed forces are serived by few. Those men and women are special and have given of themselves, to this country. For those who have not served, lets not forget what these men and women give up and by all means let us not abuse our freedoms.

To the Soldiers, their families and my fellow Vets, thank you for your service and sacrifices.

Americans and Memorial Day

As a VET, Memorial Day is a time Americans should be spending a day at home or out with their families in reflection upon the freedoms that so many men and women have died for.

It is not about the show and glory of a parade or having to attend a certain event. See, for most people, today has turned into a day off, a day of drinking or an obligation. We have learned to abuse our freedoms and turn many of our freedoms over in return of false securities and fear. We have forgotten the sacrifices made by so many over such a long history.

Spend time with your family and think about what you have, what you enjoy and those who gave their lives for what you have. Stand behind them and hold true to their sacrifice. Do not allow our freedoms to be taken away, do not allow others to abuse the freedoms they have and fight for our way of life. Everyone in America is a Soldier, even those who seek our borders for a better life.

I did not serve this country to see it become what it has. Think before you vote and think twice before you jump to conclusions on what the real issues in America are. We must rebuild the Twin Towers as they once stood and remember the days of Ellis Island.

To the Soldiers and my fellow Vets, thank you for your service and sacrifices.

..Something to think about...

Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. The man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx. 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.
.
After 3 minutes: a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule
.
4 minutes later: the violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.
.
6 minutes: A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.
.
10 minutes: A 3-year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.
.
45 minutes: The musician played continuously.
- Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while.
- About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace.
.
1 hour: He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition. The man collected a total of $32.
.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world.
He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.
Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.
.
This is a true story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities.
The questions raised : in a common place environment at an inappropriate hour:
1. Do we perceive beauty ?
2. Do we stop to appreciate it ?
3. Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context ?
.
One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made.... How many other things are we missing?

"In American society it is difficult to find venues that display any imagery, particularly a photograph, that depicts nudity. The establishment of the Internet has allowed serious artists like myself to continually exhibit creations without the need for approval from timid, conservative-minded owners of retail space in the real world. Additionally, I am able to interact directly with people who are interested in my photography. And clients wishing to commission me can obtain a sense of my photographic style and career experiencewithout having to first meet me at my studio as was the case in earlier years.

Nudity in the United States is frequently attached with a stigma of immorality or suspicion. I have been a first person witness to this since I began photographing professionally in 1975. Very little, regrettably, in attitude from the general populace has changed over those years. I think it is a sad reflection of a culture. I know from experience that people, both female and male, wish to sometimes acquire creative, quality imagery of themselves which contain elements of partial or complete exposure of the body. I have always viewed this as a reasonable and healthy desire while acknowledging that it can be difficult to locate qualified photographers who can produce such images. While I am disheartened by the often immature attitude of people in regard to the human nude I accept that many people have views that vary from mine". Jack Wegener

Savannah's Cookie Cutter Art Scene

I was excited about moving to Savannah Georgia. The city is so rich in history, known for its art, artists and open-art scene. I heard of its art galleries, photographers and the prominent art school SCAD where the teachers themselves were not just professors but rather professionals of the trades.

Even though Savannah is located deep within the conservative south, it is said that artists in all genres have complete freedom of expression in a town tolerant of “Artistic Expression”. After all, the city sells itself to the world as an "Artist Haven". Even the other day I read in the local version of Creative Loafing that Artists from all over the world are relocating to Savannah because of its art scene.

For the first several months of my life in here, I spent time exploring and growing accustomed to a life far different to the European lifestyle which I was accustomed to. After all, for 14 years I lived in Germany where I had full artistic reign, a full range of Russian and Czech models, and artistic freedoms any artist would die for. I would make a day trips to other countries to shoot with ease, enjoying the rich cultures which spanned centuries, from the age of the Romans to the days of Bauhaus into today's contemporary grunge culture. It was a dream.

I did not expect to have that full experience back home.

After all America does not have a culture of its own. We are a youthful melting pot just a few hundred years old but we are the land of the free. A country for which I served as a soldier and fought for the artistic freedoms I came home to enjoy. Savannah seemed well suited for me and my family. It was not New York but it was safe for the family and hailed itself as a community open to artists of all types, open to artistic freedom, expression and tolerance.

So now I am back in my homeland for the next stage in my life, to share my artistic style with American based agencies and galleries but what I found in Savannah was an artist’s community of cookie cutter art work, copy cat galleries and an art school influenced by conservative religious groups, which in turn allowed for little true artistic expression of its students or faculty.

And when one travels down Bay or River Streets, all one sees is cookie cutter art. The same work from shop to shop. There is little to no variation, all meant for the quick sale to naïve tourist. There is nothing showing the rich artist lives or the art culture of this beautiful town. Little work expressing the talent produced from the school and nothing of true merit worth the $$ being asked in the galleries lining the streets.

What shocked me the most is the devaluation of art from gallery to gallery. Why do I say that? I entered one gallery and found one beautiful photograph on the wall priced for $85. It was an 11x14 black and white. I then went to the gallery right next door and found the exact same print, same size on the wall but priced $190. Now the value of this photograph is lost and so is the sale. I continued to go to 4 other galleries in close proximity to one another and found other works in similar situations which ruin the reputation of Savannah's art scene.

But to my surprise, I was contacted by Jack Wegener, Savannah's 1st professional nude photographer who started to shoot the nude professionally in the early 70’s. He told me of his successes and his struggles in this community over the years and the negative responses that finally drove him into seclusion in late 2002. But his work remains a testament to the vibrant artists that once walked freely throughout Savannah until the galleries shut their doors to the contemporary artists and classic nudes. This speaks of truth of the artistic freedom allowed in a city who dreams of an image of being a artist haven. Still Jack gave me hope for my time here. I know there are others like me, waiting to come out once again.

Currently Savannah is a city of cookie cutter artists and desperate galleries controlled by conservative churches and an artist council promoting a false image of a city. Maybe I am too global for this small town or it takes an outsider with an honest voice to express his dismay but I fought for freedoms of expression I have yet to find in this city. It would serve Free Expression best for Savannah and its Art Scene not be led by conservatism but instead, to encourage true Artistic Freedom. It is what our country stands for after all, freedom.

Models Beware-new scam

A serious scam making its rounds through model sites. It is trapping many girls who seek to be a model.

The scheme: Someone wants to hire you but does not have a way to pay the photographer so they ask if you would accept a check and then forward the payment to the photographer who will not book your shoot until he is paid. Included in this check is your payment, normally 2 to 3 times the going rate, $xxx for travel and the money for the photographer.

Once you receive the check, you find it is $500 to $2000 (or euro) more than they mentioned it would be. You contact them and they tell you to keep your portion and send the rest to the photographer. Again it is mentioned it needs to happen fast for the photographer will not book the shooting until he has the money.

THIS SHOULD BE A FLAG!

Once you cash the check, it bounces. Keep in mind, the check looks real, many banks cannot even tell. These bogus checks are often drawn on an African bank which does not exist.

Then if you write the agent, his email is no longer good. What does this mean to you? You’re responsible for paying the bank back plus the fees for the bounced check.

Rule number one: If it sounds too good to be true, then it is.

Here are some rules to keep in mind:

1. Know you rate. You know what your modeling is worth, if they offer you 10x the normal amount, something is wrong. Photographers pay competitive rates. Find out what those are.

2. No true photographer or agent will have you cash a check for them. This is not professional no matter the sob story they provide.

3. Get references. Look at their webpage. If the webpage is “under construction”, run.

4. Those hiring you will book transportation for you, having a ticket at the airport or Tran station under your name.

5. They will send you a contract with contact information in advance, upon request. If the offer seems strange, request a contract.

6; UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES do you give them your passport for them to get a visa for you. Keep your eyes on it at all times. If they have it, it will prevent you from fleeing the country should you need to and this is a method used to get women into the sex trade or abducted as a sex slave.

I am concerned about the increase in these methods of hiring and payment scams. I would not blog it if it has become a serious issue.

"Hot Babes" went into a second printing to accommodate the surge in sales after the 2008 Frankfurt Book Fair, where I spoke about Censorship, Religion and Artistic Freedom and conducted a book signing. At this time, there is not a scheduled re-print of this book so if you do not already have a personal copy, grab one from Amazon and then please leave a comment and rating. I value your input for my future endeavors.

Hot Babes, due to its artistic value, survived several attempts to censor this and other erotic photographic books world wide. It was finally deemed artistic by the same organizations who are fighting to remove pornography from book stores even though it contains some up close and very personal images.

Many of the models for Hot Babes...

...made it to magazines like Playboy and Penthouse shortly after the books release. Following their magazine pictorials, some of the young women hung up their hats from modeling and are now perusing acting careers. One such model is Morgana who had a part in “Casino Royal”.

Another model, Peach, has packed up her modeling career for family, giving birth to a beautiful boy last year. Her photographs in Hot Babes were the last erotic photographs she posed for and were among the favorite of many who have purchased this book.

Thank you to everyone who came to my last Photographer-Model meet of 2008 and thank you for being so open to the last minute changes of location and date. It was well worth the troubles as this meeting proved to be a great opportunity which yielded wonderful discussions about digital and analog techniques and floored great concerns about photographers versus censorship/artistic freedom in the modern religious enviroment.

There was a wonderful impromptu model shoot exhibiting posing techniques for non-average models on location which produced outstanding work. I was able to teach techniques for shooting on location without proper lighting or equipment which posed a challenge for me. As a result, I will ensure that future events incorporate a 4 hour block dedicated to shooting so bring camera and be prepared to shoot.

As you know from out conversations, I will be relocating to the US for most of 2009. As a result, I will only conduct one gathering/workshop in July. This combined event will be held in Frankfurt, spanning 2 days.

Bittersweet Memories of the Erotic Opera

I was a phantom in this erotic opera, filled with strange characters that each brought life to their piece of this story. We danced together and allowed our different songs to merge, creating an erotic statement about love, life, art and photography, not to mention about the artist within.

Each aspect of this Opera has created a marvelous sound that has filled the halls of my existence and created me. And as the curtain now draws upon the stage, I depart into the wings in preparation for my next opening.

For 15 years, you shared your love and passion with this artist and I have become a better man and photographer as a result. You have taught me about myself, my roots and about my future. My life has been filled with the erotic and surrounded with beauty from the models I have photographed to the people I have met.

January opens with a new storyline about great change and new direction but far from the shores of the country(ies) I love so much. So it is fitting to thank the beautiful models, photographers, publishers, artists and friends who have helped me develop over the years. You will never be forgotten and many of you will be seen again as I start to write about my return.

When asked which acts in this Opera hold the most memories, I could not single out a place, thing or person I would remember the most. How can one single out so little from so much?

I wish I took the chance to travel further, to see the sights of tourists but which I put off until another day. That “another day” came and went and I found I was not a tourist but I was “living” the dream of Europe. So to answer the question, I will only say that my heart is filled with parts of Germany, Czech Republic, France, Italy, and pieces of Russia and the Ukraine. But it was Germany that brought me my wife and helped us to create our “GermAcains” so it would be time and life in a little village outside Frankfurt that I will hold dearest.

So for now, I close the curtain, exit stage right and start my search for new characters for an Opera not yet written.

Minimum attendance:

5 make-up and hair artists.

Purpose: To bring models and photographers together (both amateur and professional) to talk about upcoming projects, review portfolios, schedule shootings and create a networking system enabling models, photographers, make up and hair artists to coordinate shootings more quickly.

This photograph I took of Bianca was taken in a small, dark amateur studio (10'x20') in Germany. She was photographed against a window and curtain with simple lighting; one 250 watt second flash with soft box. My exposure, just as simple: F11 at 125sec. Since space was an issue, I was up-close shooting with a 50mm lens on a Nikon D100.

It is easy to find yourself wanting more and more equipment, the top of the line camera and lighting. Your equipment does not and will never make you a professional. All you need is a camera and the knowledge to create.

I pride myself on creating my art without laptop on site, with only one digital camera and a Bronica ETRSi for back up. Lighting I use is always minimal.

Take the time to get to know what you have. It is all you need but it never hurts to want more, just do not waste your time wanting when you could be creating!

"I am" Preparing for the Frankfurt Book Fair

I am preparing a table book for presentation to publishers detailing my newest working projects. This book will be accompanied by 5 fine art canvas prints (21” x 40”) that are ready for gallery exhibition.

To date, I have been unable to find a publisher willing to publish this new work, mainly because of the controversial content and current state of religious faith throughout the world. I will still take this work for review in hopes of bringing reconnection to this project based upon its artistic merit.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is a huge event for me.

Not for the exposure but for the "sensation of surroundings". You will find artists from of all walks of life; publishers from all corners or the world; displayed works of art from the written word to photographic design. They are all in one place at one time for all to see.

My apologies for not posting Photographic Tips and news on my developments over the past few months but I have been engaged in a fight against Censorship and Religious Fundamentalism which threatened my work. While researching my case/making my stand, I found MPGS I wanted to share with you, each which is inspirational to me. Thank you for being patient and sharing these found pieces with me.

I created a wonderful art exhibition (“Into Temptation, the Crucifixion of Mary”) for which I was profusely attacked by Christians in the US who felt I had attacked their personal beliefs. This was not my intent. In fact I thought it was an expression of how the church has turned upon women and left behind its core values while expressing my appreciation for its spiritual beauty.

My work was produced for exhibition and each piece was printed on artist canvas. This work, through this conflict of riligious faith, has now become only a small part of my personal expression. This series has become the first pillar of the “III Pillars of Sin”.

This experience has shown me how important the freedom of expression truly is. We as artists MUST fight for our rights to produce but we must also balance moral and legal challenges along the way such as those, photographer Bill Henson encountered.

This is a dangerous time for artists. The internet and the religious war brewing have become a direct threat against our right of creativity. We need to unite and fight for what we stand for, the freedom to express and produce works of art for the world to enjoy!

This Artist Under Attack

At this time, freedoms are being taken away by people who do not care about having choice in life. They are attacking artists around the world to include me, prohibiting the publication of art that people in a free society have the right to view.

I create Erotic Art, I photograph women nude and produce art fit for galleries. But some want me stopped, they want art stopped, they want only what pleases them, a blank wall absent of temptation.

American Censorship made it to Europe

My birth place, America, has a dominant influence within the church, spreading fundamental ideas throughout the world. Now, they have started to attack artists around the world, from the master of Hot Babes to a beautiful exhibition in Austria.

What is funny is the same group that had Hot Babes pulled from book stores and from Amazon.com are allowing a book titled "Barely Legal Cum Sluts" to become a best seller. You have the Texas Poly ranch raising young girls for a life of bliss and Mr. Haggard, not to mention the scandal with choir boys.....and then they want to have art pulled worldwide to act as if they are pure.....Well then watch Zeitgeist.

Americans are hypocritical. And they are powerful even in the current economic crisis. They push others into submission yet strive for their own personal agendas. Sometimes I am ashamed of being associated with such people but then I am out to show them, My voice it to be heard. I am atheist and proud. I took my last series of photographs to show the hypocrisy of the church.

I attending Christian colleges
I joined the church at 16
Had my eyes opened in 1985 and 1986,
Then again in 1995 and 1998
I faced death
I took a life

I express my existence in this world through my art

I will be heard and I will not allow Church's in America to infiltrate the European Union without a fight!

So what better place for Lucifer to hide than in the seats of the church, under the noises of the believers. Look into the eyes of church leaders and see what I see. Then again, read this and look closely at who had the influence in Austria. These people had the power to have this exhibition removed. If they had this reach, imaging what else they can do to take your freedoms aways in the same way they are taking the freedoms away from the American People!

Now I know why so many publishers are fearful of my latest project! They are afraid of America! "One Nation Under God"!

Currently I am focusing upon Fine Art submissions for Galleries and Editorial work for EU magazines and Ad firms. This shift comes in preparation for a relocation of studio operations to Miami Florida in June of 2009. Clients requiring commercial production can still request services.
